Ken Kunen
was on sabbatical during the fall semester of 2001-02. Ken was based in Madison and took research trips to Budapest and Toronto. Besides doing research, his sabbatical was used to work on a new edition of his 1981 book ``Set Theory'' and on curriculum development for Math 131 (one of the courses required for students in the elementary education program).

Alexander Nagel
is on sabbatical for all of the 2001-02 academic year. Alex spent the fall semester at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, Spain and is now back in Madison. In Barcelona he collaborated with Joaquim Bruna. During his stay in Barcelona he also made scientific visits to CIRM in Marseille (France), the Scuola Normale in Pisa (Italy), and Christian-Albrechts University in Kiel (Germany). One of his sabbatical projects is working on a research monograph on finite-type geometry and analysis.

Carl de Boor
is also on sabbatical for all of the 2001-02 sabbatical year. Carl is based in Madison and is taking several research trips during the year. One of his major projects is an e-book on splines.

Paul Milewski
is spending his year-long sabbatical collaborating with colleagues at the University of Victoria in British Columbia. Among his research visits are trips to the Newton Institute (Cambridge, England), Morningside Institute (Beijing, China), and IMPA (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).

                              
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                

2002-03 Academic Year

In addition, four faculty members have been granted sabbaticals for next year.

Pat Ahern
will be on sabbatical all year at universities in Marseilles, France and La Laguna, Tenerife, Spain.

Steffen Lempp
will be on sabbatical all year at the University of Heidelberg, Germany.

Arnold Miller
will spend his year-long sabbatical at the Fields Institute and the University of Toronto, Canada.

Paul Rabinowitz
will spend one month of his fall semester sabbatical at Princeton University, and one or two weeks at the University of Tokyo, Japan.
