  • Mediteranean Café - Good for lunch - open until 4PM - cash only.

  • Fugu Asian Fusion - (off state on Gilman) General opinion holds this as the best Asian food in Madison
  • Cafe Samba - (off state on Gilman)

  • Chautara - Himalayan/Nepalese
  • Himal Chuli - Sister to Chatara - smaller, better for veggies/vegans.

  • The library bar and grill - (Very close to Van Vleck)
  • Memorial Union
  • Dotty Dowry's Dumplings - Burgers

Around the capital
  • The Great Dane Pub - THE Madison brew-pub - Ask for their cask ales.
  • Brocach Irish Pub and Restaurant - Great whiskey selection, and the food's good too.
  • The Old Fashioned - Canonical place for Cheese curds, reviews are otherwise highly mixed - Hundreds of Wisconsin beers on tap.
  • Cooper's Tavern - Many Belgian beers and food.
  • NatSpiel - Just South of the Great Dane on King - has no sign out front.
  • Bayou - New Orleans style food and drink.
  • Papavero - Ask for their Amarros. Pricier restaurant, but a great place for dessert and drinks after dinner.

  • Greenbush bar - (Regent just west of Park) - Basement Italian restaurant
  • Sa-Bai Thong - (University and Highland - take the bus or drive) - Thai
  • Lao Laan Xang - (Williamson Street) - Good Laotian food.
  • Weary Traveler - Across the street from Lao Laan Xang - also good food and good hot drinks
  • Maharani - (W Washington and Broom) - Good Indian place with a lunch buffet.
