Three new PhDs joined us this year in three-year postdoctoral appointments.
Marton Balazs grew up in Budapest (Hungary) where he was a physics student at Eötvös University. He was a PhD student in the Department of Stochastics, part of the Institute of Mathematics of Technical University of Budapest. His advisor was Bálint Tóth and his thesis was titled ``Coupling Methods in Stochastic Deposition Models.'' The research interests of Dr. Balazs include interacting particle systems, stochastic deposition processes, and coupling methods in stochastic processes.
LiJing Wang was born in China and attended Nankei University. He received the PhD from MIT in 2003 where his advisor was Gang Tian. The title of his thesis was ``Asymptotic Expansion of Bergman Metrics with Twisted Bundle.'' His principle area of research is that of transcendental algebraic geometry and symplectic geometry, especially their relation. Dr. Wang is currently interested in the relationship of stability of holomorphic bundles over projective manifolds and canonical metrics.
Andrej Zlatos was born in the Slovak Republic and attended Comenius University in Bratislava. His PhD in mathematical physics is from the California Institute of Technology in 2003 where his advisor was Barry Simon. His thesis was titled ``Sum Rules and the Szegö condition for Jacobi Matrices.'' While at Caltech, he received the Scott Russell Johnson Prize for Excellence in Graduate Research (2002) and the Scott Russell Johnson Prize for Excellence in Dissertation in Mathematics (2003). Dr. Zlatos is working on spectral theory of Schrödinger operators, in particular, dynamical properties of the Fibonacci Hamiltonian. |
