The UW-Madison math department organizes a series of talks aimed at interested middle and high school students throughout the semester. This year the program is organized by George Craciun. The goal is to present fun mathematics talks that give students a taste of interesting topics and ideas in math and science. In the past (as part of the "High School Math Nights") we had talks about plasma and weather on distant starts and planets, the way images are rendered in video games, and how credit card numbers are securely transmitted over the internet. One of our recent Math Circles has even been profiled by the Wisconsin State Journal!

After each talk we have pizza provided by the Mathematics Department, giving the students an opportunity to mingle with other participants, chat with the speaker and ask questions about some of the topics that have been discussed, but also about college, careers in science, etc. For more information about our math circle click here.
