Outreach goes beyond our direct instructional and research mission, and enables our department to enrich the lives of many people not directly affiliated with UW. It provides us a means to use the expertise we have to further contribute to the well-being of the people of Wisconsin. We consider outreach an activity vital to our department. Our efforts include fostering mathematical talents of the children of our state through mentoring and mathematics competitions, attracting students to a career in science, contributing to training a new generation of school teachers, and even inspiring people through mathematics in the arts!
