For the past 8 years, Gloria Mari-Beffa has run a mentorship program for young women in mathematics. The program pairs students from high schools with graduate students in our department to work together on math projects for about 12 weeks, meeting once a week for 1-2 hours. In a typical year, anywhere from 7 to 18 high schoolers participate. At the end of the year, we organize a presentation ceremony for the students, which many parents also attend. Students have returned to the program many times, some of them for a full four years!
